FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUDITOR’S DEPARTMENT DEVELOPS PRODUCTIVITY APP

Creates Custom Work Order Application for Engineer’s Office to Boost Efficiency

CHARDON, OHIO – July 2, 2025 – Geauga County Auditor Charles E. Walder is pleased to announce a technological improvement developed thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Office of Geauga County Engineer Andrew Haupt and the Auditor’s Geographic Information System (“GIS”) Department.  A custom application has been developed to streamline the tracking of work orders, promising enhanced efficiency and responsiveness for public and internal submissions.  The Auditor’s Office is responsible for a variety of essential county functions, including oversight of the County’s GIS system, which provides valuable geospatial data and analysis for various other Geauga County entities.

The innovative application is the result of a partnership between GIS Solutions Architect Sarah Perry and Rob Weigle, the Engineer’s Highway Superintendent.  This collaboration leveraged the GIS Department’s technical expertise to address a critical need within the Engineer’s Office.

“I am incredibly proud of the work of Sarah and our GIS team,” Auditor Walder said.  “This new application is a testament to the power of governmental collaboration and our commitment to using technology to improve Geauga County’s operations.”

With the new application, all work orders, whether submitted by the public or generated internally, will now be managed within a single, integrated system.  Work orders can include anything from the removal of dead animals from the road and highway repairs, to replacing culverts and building bridges.  The application needed to be user friendly, available to use on mobile devices in the field and desktop computers in the office, able to provide managers with instant updates on the status of all work orders and allow for the mapping of the locations of all work orders within Geauga County.

“By providing a more efficient system for tracking work orders, we are ultimately better serving the residents of Geauga County,” GIS Department Supervisor Frank Antenucci said.  “This collaboration between elected officials exemplifies our ongoing commitment to leveraging technology for more efficient and improved public services.”

The application provides a platform for monitoring the status of work orders from submission to completion, enhancing efficiency and accountability.  The work order system incorporates Geographic Information System (GIS) software and Microsoft 365 Apps, and allows for all field work to be planned, completed, and managed efficiently by both supervisors and field crew.  With better insights into work order volume and types, the Engineer’s Office can more effectively allocate resources and prioritize tasks.
