GEAUGA COUNTY AUDITOR INFORMS LOCAL BUSINESSES ABOUT STATE-MANDATED VENDOR LICENSE APPLICATION FEE INCREASE
Effective April 9, 2025
CHARDON, OHIO, April 4, 2025 – Geauga County Auditor Charles E. Walder would like to inform local businesses that the Ohio Department of Taxation has announced that the one-time fee for applying for a new vendor’s license will soon increase from $25 to $50. The $25 increase is required by House Bill 366 and takes effect on April 9, 2025. It will support the Organized Crime Commission Fund and is required to be used to reimburse political subdivisions for their expenses incurred when their law enforcement officers participate in an organized crime task force.
This one-time fee is paid by businesses applying for a new vendor license. Generally, there are two different types of vendor licenses: Vendor’s Licenses and Transient Vendor Licenses. A Vendor’s License is the general license required for any business selling tangible goods or services at a physical location in Ohio and is obtained from the county auditor. A Transient Vendor License is obtained from the Ohio Department of Taxation for businesses that sell goods or services in a county temporarily—usually at events like fairs, markets, or festivals—and lacks a permanent place of business in that county. The fee applies to both types.
“My Office is here to help,” Auditor Walder said. “We are committed to supporting Geauga County’s businesses, which contribute so much to our community.”
